Movie vs Book: The Fault in our Stars
ashley | I read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green because there was so much buzz about the book and the upcoming movie, I had to see what everyone was raving about.
The Cast: I’m a big fan of Shailene Woodley, I actually really liked her in this. I thought she did a great job with Hazel and was capable of tapping in to the mature, wise voice that the character had. Ansel Elgort was a fine actor too, but I didn’t really like him in the role. I don’t know if it was because I couldn’t see past them being brother and sister in Divergent, but I just didn’t like them together.
I liked Laura Dern and Sam Trammel as Hazel’s parents, they brought some character to the roles that could have otherwise been stiff. Willem Dafoe is always such a character in his roles, so he was pretty perfect for Van Houten.
The Differences: There really weren’t too many differences; they stuck pretty closely with the book.
Better than the book?: A good effort, a lot of what I really liked about the book were included in the movie, the banter and the charm, but a few casting conflicts and it didn’t quite live up to the impression I got from the book.
